About Beginner Courses

New Divers receiving a certification after the completion of the course.Have you ever considered what it would be like to scuba dive?  If you are planning a visit than your curiosity can become a reality.  The island of Koh Tao is surrounded by a beautiful underwater paradise boasting comfortable landscapes and calm waters.  There is a variety of marine life and several corals to awe you.  This underwater terrain is perfect for beginners, making scuba diving one of the most popular and enjoyed activites.  The prices for Try Dives or certification are of the cheapest in the world, and the experience is one that will make you fall in love with the ocean.

Up the ladderThere are more than 40 dive shops spread throughout the island, and all of them start beginner courses on a daily basis.  Before you ever go in the water you will need to make sure you are in good medical condition and if you have any doubts, there are medics who can do a check-up.  Many new divers fear the unknown of the underwater world, but very quickly realize that in the capable hands of instructors and knowledge of the equipment, scuba diving becomes a safe, magical, and unforgettable experience.  If you don't want to commit to a 3-4 day course for certification, then a "Try Dive" with an istructor for an afternoon may be your answer.

Scuba diving is a social and peaceful activity filled with excitement and wonder.  So many first-timers have gone from zero to hero starting off as beginners and now living on Koh Tao as working instructors.  Ask your scuba diving instructor about thier story and you will surly see yourself there too, a holiday must.Languages

Languages – Beginner courses can be taught in a variety of languages, if the dive centre does not list theLanguages language you need they may employ a free- lance instructor to teach the course in the required language. Course reading materials and videos come in most major languages such as French, German and Scandinavian languages, for others contact kohtao.asia and we will check for you.

Beginner Courses include all the basic equipment and academic materials needed to complete the course.

Course group size - varies from dive centre to dive centre, the certifying agencies (PADI/SSI etc) set a maximum group size per Open Water Studentsinstructor for each course, within these ratios dive centres will set group sizes depending on how busy they are. Try dives have a maximum of 4 people whereas for the open water 4 – 8 is the norm when it is busy.

Private courses or longer courses can be arranged when booking for an extra fee if you feel you need additional time or more focused attention. Contact kohtao.asia to enquire.

Diving conditions in Koh Tao are perfect for beginners. Strong currents are rare, the water is warm all year round and there are plenty of shallow dive sites. Marine life is abundant and theVideo visibility is good most of the time.

Optional extras include a professional videographer making a short movie of your dives (they often join the group on the last day of the open water course, buying the DVD is optional) or a professional photographer. Wrist mounted dive computers and underwater cameras and torches can also be rented in most dive centres.

Combined courses – If you would like to stay a bit longer and do more diving, courses can be combined with a discounted price for consecutive courses. Just contact us and tell us what you would like to do.

Explore a tropical coral reef and enjoy Yellow Fusiliers swimming over the reef. Here you will find out all you need to know about what is required from you as a certified diver who would like to fun dive on Koh Tao.

Koh Tao is known for its high standards when it comes to safety consequently before being allowed to dive you will be asked for your certification card and log book.  If you do not have them do not worry! Each dive centre can look you up online using your name and date of birth.

Although the different certifying agencies (PADI, SSI, BSAC, etc.,) recognise each other’s certification, if an individual dive centre does not represent the certifying agency they may not be willing or able to look you up. There are plenty of dive centre on Koh Tao many of which represent all agencies so as long as you have been certified it is not a big problem to track you down however having your card and logbook prevents any of this unnecessary hassle.
