Dive Sites

Koh Tao Dive Sites are known to be among the best in the Gulf of Thailand. There are about 32 sites around the island and most of them can be reached within 1/2 hour boat ride from the pier. Almost all of them are suitable for all level of divers, but even advanced divers will find the underwater topography and aquatic life quiet impressive. There is always a possibility to see Whale Sharks almost all year around.

Shark Island

Blue Spotted Stingray Location: 1 km off the sothern tip of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 15m / Maximum 28m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Shark Island is a small rocky island off the southern tip of Koh Tao. The bottom slopes away from the shallows all the way down to about 40 meters at the southern corner. In the shallows there are lots of big boulders to navigate and many corals to enjoy.

Chumpon Pinnacle

Anemone Location: About 5km northwest of Nang Yuan
Depth: Average 18m / Maximum 36m
Level of Diving: Experienced Divers

Description: Spectaular granite pinnacles extending up from around 36 metres to within 14 metres of the surface.

Twin Rocks

Christmas Trees Location: Western Side of Koh Nang Yuan
Depth: Average 10m / Maximum 18m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Twins is two shallow rock pinnacles sitting just off Koh Nang Yuan. There are lots of rocky outcroppings to check out and also a stone archway swim through on the deeper pinnacle. The shallower 'Twin' lies at a depth of around 6 - 10 meters. Its deeper neighbor sits at about 10 - 18 meters and covers a much larger area.

Aow Leuk Bay

Yellow box fish Location: South-East Sideo of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 6m / Maximum 14m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: A calm divesite, perfect for beginners. The shallow waters allow for the corals to truly illuminate under the sun and create perfect photo opportunities. Follow the rock wall formations and you will find your self in deeper water with new marine landscape.

Green Rock

Titan Trigger Fish Location: North - West of Koh Nang Yuan
Depth: Average 12m / Maximum 30m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Single large rock pinnacle rising to within a few feet of the surface. Many scattered rocks and boulders at it's base creating a fantastic maze of caves and swim throughs.

Hin Wong Pinnacle

Scorpionfish Location: East Coast of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 12m / Maximum 27m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Located on the east coast of Koh Tao, about 80m northeast of Hin Wong bay.
The maximum depth is 30m and the average depth is 20m.

Description: Enormous dive site of scattered rocks, extending from 14 meters right down to 40!

The Lighthouse Pinnacle, Cape Grachom Fai

Moray Eel Location: North-East Side of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 10m / Maximum 18m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: A nice shallow bay with a small pinnacle lying just off the reef.

White Rock

Hermit Crab Location: Western Side of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 14m / Maximum 28m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: White Rock is a massive dive site. It has one main pinnacle, with a narrow 'canyon' passing down its side and is surrounded by a wide scattering of rocks and boulders. Several different dives are possible here, either enjoying the pinnacle from the north buoy line, or taking route across the corals from the south buoy line.

Mango Bay

Depth: Average 9m / Maximum 16m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Mango Bay is a picturesque shallow bay with hard coral reefs running through it. The shallow depth means that it is great for training and snorkelling. For the more experienced diver try a drop off dive from the periphery - here you can get some depth and see some bigger stuff!

Nang Yuan Pinnacle

Jellyfish Location: North-East of Koh Nang Yuan
Depth: Average 11m / Maximum 21m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Off the east coast of Koh Nang Yuan is a single pinnacle ascending up from about 18 meters to within a meter of the surface. The highlight of this dive site is an awesome swim through system, passing amongst some enormous rocks and boulders. This lies at 12 meters, and is just a short swim from the main pinnacle.

Southwest Pinnacle

Fussilier Location: 7 km South west off the sothern tip of Koh Tao
Depth: Average 18m / Maximum 30m
Level of Diving: Beginner to Experienced Divers

Description: Southwest is a stunning isolated pinnacle one hour away from Koh Tao. There is one enormous main pinnacle stretching from about 24 meters to within 6 meters of the surface with scattered smaller pinnacles lining it's periphery. On a good day Southwest is spectacular!
