So, you are now certified and have caught the diving “bug”. What to do next? There are a lot of options; one logical step is the advanced course. It consists of a little theory and five adventure dives. The deep dive is mandatory and certifies you to 30 meters. If you choose to do the advanced course with PADI the navigation dive is also mandatory. The elective dives you choose yourself, there are many options - night dive, wreck dive and buoyancy control are very popular. For more adventure dives.
An adventure dive is one open water dive learning a particular set of skills such as fish identification, underwater navigation or deep diving, they can be done together as certification courses such as the advanced or adventure course. Most also have a corresponding specialty course. For a full list of available adventure dives click here
There are many types of specialty courses available, listed below are some of the most popular: deep, enriched air nitrox and wreck. There are many other specialty courses so dont be afraid to contact us if there is a specific one you would like to enquire about.
Certification: Emergency First Resonse (EFR) or Respond Right
A first aid certification is a mandatory requirement for some diving courses. If you already hold a first aid certificate and it is two years recent this will suffice, if not then you may need to complete a course while you are on Koh Tao.
Don’t worry the courses run daily and are a whole lot of fun. You will learn how to provide emergency care for sick or injured people with various illnesses and injuries through a selection of instructor guided and self-study sessions, training videos and scenario based emergency situations.
Upon completion you will be certified to offer basic primary and secondary first aid to a sick or injured person from an internationally recognised emergency care agency.
If you see yourself jumping out of helicopters to rescue stranded sailors in icy seas, the you should probably join the coast guard however if you would like to become a more confident, well rounded diver the SSI stress and rescue specialty or the PADI rescue course is the best option. This course is a mandatory stepping stone to becoming a professional diver.
